Gel Nails

Gel Nail Systems are relatively strong, have good adhesion properties which means little or no lifting and have an extremely durable, high shine finish.

The smooth nature of the gels means that there is little finishing off filing, to get them to a good smooth finish. They can be worn unvarnished as they have a high gloss sheen or if nail varnish is used, the smooth hard surface of the gel nail ensures a perfect adhesion which means varnish colour remains perfectly unchipped for longer.

Procedure

After the nails and cuticles are prepared and cleansed the gel is painted over the nail surface and the nail is 'cured' until it hardens under an ultra violet light. Next the thin, sticky dispersion layer is removed from the surface of the nail and the nail is gently filed smooth. A thin topcoat gel is then applied and cured forming a strong, clear shield to the nail. This is cured for two more minutes and a nourishing cuticle oil is smoothed around the cuticles.

Benefits

The benefits to the client are a smooth, shiny set of nails which are fairly lightweight and hold onto nail varnish a lot longer than natural nails. The natural nails have a chance to grow underneath, with a protective coating preventing knocks and tears being possible.

Considerations

Approximately fortnighly infills are required as with all nail systems as the natural nails continue to grow.

Gel nails are notoriously difficult to file away and often a thin layer needs to be left to grow out with the natural nails.

As with any other systems there is always a chance of an allergic reaction to products. I have never seen one, but there is still a possibility
